A Scroll Book from Fabric

Here I am making my latest book project, which I show in the picture below. Made of fabric, both cover and pages are rolled up into a scroll form when complete.  Rolled books are a very ancient form of communication. We see examples in ancient tapestries and literature. Back then I am sure the pages were hand sewn. 
Being in  modern times, I used fusible lining and a hot iron. Always this is a learning process. I chose a thick denim, and transferred words of poetry right onto each "page" of material. I can see how this would be a fun vehicle for my original calligraphy. 
 The weight of the fabric made it hard for the denim to  adhere. Using steam  helped with the joining. I may go back and add a few stitches, for security's sake. This is still a work in progress for me.I guess it could hang up on a wall in its open form. There are so many paths to follow in this wonderful world of book arts.

                                                                

A Set of Denim Blue

Sorry I have been away from my writing  this week. I  can't even say I was working too hard. No, I was  at the beach, looking at the  blue sky, and blue and white frothy ocean.Sometimes, I even was inside those blue green waves, although my goal was to ride them as smoothly as those surfers out there on the horizon. 
Of course this sets me thinking about my blue artwork.I'm still into the jewelry I talking about in the last blog. I resonate with the color blue, in all its hues and variations. Here is the full set of my "Denim Blue" beads, with the necklace, bracelet, and earrings.Personally, I like my baubles to match.  Every item  I make is  individual, with each porcelain bead being rolled out  by hand,  and assembled one at a time with its crystal and blue stones for accent.I think  this gives  a feeling  of variety to each creation, yet an overall harmony within each piece, or as a set. That's my belief, and I'm standin' by it.

The Color Blue

Isn't blue a lovely color? it reminds us of sky, water, Paul Newman's eyes, our best denim jeans. It is considered a good counterpart to its' hot cousins, yellow and red. It is called a cool color. It is recessive on your canvas, and has restful energy that translates well

either in a bedroom or in a painting.It is kind of a safe color, you can't go wrong wearing a blue shirt, gentlemen.

And yet when we are not feeling happy, we feel " blue' . And many a Mississippi Delta singer can tell us the sad story of " when my baby done left me , an' I got nothing but the blues".

I have a blue glaze I admire, softer than pure cobalt.I like the way it seems to shimmer in the light, like facets on a chandelier. . Does it sell? Not very often.Go figure. Now my blue jewelry, which I call Denim blue, that people seem to like . Probably goes back to those favorite denim jeans you own.
